The Mudita Trust: fundraising events
The first ever fundraising effort by the Trust was for Mudita and her good friend Namtip to sell their old clothes to raise £34.50 back in 1991. Things moved on quickly to the first Eastern Cultural Fête in 1992 which then became a yearly event. In 1993 Mudita put her cooking skills to film and made a Thai cookery video, Simply Thai, and all the proceeds from the sale are donated to the Trust.
With numerous individual donations and the input of 10% of profits from The Hamilton Arms and the Nava Thai Restaurant the Trust was able to increase its aid to many more children. Then, in 1998, a more ambitious attempt at fundraising came in the form of the Amazing Thailand Festival. It was a much grander affair than the Eastern Cultural Fête, spanning over three days on much bigger land. It was an amazing success, but also an amazing amount of work, too! So after staging it again in 1999 it was decided to hold the festival bi-yearly instead. Another festival is in the planning stages. More information should be available soon. - The Eastern Cultural Fête is held every Spring Bank Holiday. (It has moved from its usual venue. Please click here for details).
- The Amazing Thailand Festival, organised by the Mudita Trust and Secretts, is held every alternate year. The festival is the biggest cultural event ever staged in Waverley and includes spectacular dance, martial arts, fortune tellers, masseurs, processions and colourful markets. A street of Thai restaurants will cook delicious, authentic Thai dishes. The next Amazing Thailand Festival is in August 2009.
- Live Thailand Festival 24-25 August 2008 (August bank holiday weekend).
